Flavia Piola is an Italian documentary photographer based in Rome. 

In 2019 she graduated from the ISFCI Institute of Photography and in 2021 she received a Master’s degree in Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism from the International Center of Photography in New York. 

Member of Women Photograph, her photography aims to reduce prejudices related to mental health by talking about emotional difficulties without stigmatizing or victimizing those involved.

Thanks to her long-term projects, she received Mifa Honorable Mention in 2019 and 2021, with exhibitions in Rome, Todi and New York.
Moreover, she won the Hillman Foundation Fellowship in 2022 for her project “Mind Colors”, made in collaboration with people affected by psychiatric disorders.
In October 2022 she attended the 35th Eddie Adams Workshop, and in 2023 she will exhibit her latest project “Spirits in Exile” at the Head On Photo Festival in Sydney.
